The Kisnána Castle

It can be described with many adjectives, but one thing is certain – the Kisnána Castle is not an ordinary castle. More precisely, it is a castle ruin that, after its renovation in 2010-2011, offers new experiences to visitors.

The history and vicissitudes of the castle largely coincide with those of the settlement. In 1543, a significant part of the castle was destroyed, and it fell into ruin for centuries. The video below excellently presents the history and heyday of the Kisnána Castle:

The Rebirth of the Castle

Although initiatives to preserve the castle's condition emerged in the 19th century, the real archaeological excavation and restoration of the towers at Kisnána Castle took place from the 1940s to the mid-1960s. The excavation provided a wealth of information about how the castle looked in the Middle Ages.

In 2010-2011, thanks to substantial funding, the Kisnána Castle was completely renovated. It now features exhibition spaces, a viewing terrace, a stage and auditorium for castle games, and event venues. Additionally, a unique feature was included in the investment: a so-called chronoscope, which allows visitors to 'look into the past'.
