KTCS Carnival Costume Hike in the Mátra
On the initiative of our KTCS fellow hiker and friend István Alkusz, we held our first costume carnival hike in 2025. It was a huge success among us, and everyone had a great time. We wish to turn it into a tradition.
To ensure that the costumes aren't subjected to unreasonable wear and tear, I am planning the costume hike on the 5-kilometer loop trail once again. And just like last year, we will walk it in reverse.
If you’d like to join a friendly, atmospheric, 5-kilometer hike featuring highly diverse geological sights—where we don't rush, take plenty of photos, laugh a lot, and share our homemade pastries, tea, and spirits—then come along!
Wearing a costume is not mandatory, but if you put on even just a mask, you'll definitely feel more part of the group.
We will start in front of the Kisnána Castle Museum and finish at the same spot.
Along the way, we’ll climb the sunlit rocks of Macskavár, follow the ramparts of former Lovásznána, admire the 50-kilometer panoramic view from Szkalyina, descend into the gray andesite tuff gorge of Ördögvályú, and see a snow-white dacite tuff canyon.
Bringing water or tea is mandatory, while sandwiches, fruit, and pastries are highly recommended!
If you have a child who can handle a 5-kilometer hike, feel free to bring them along; we’ll be mindful of their pace and won't leave anyone behind.
